Always Welcoming New Members:
  • No Experience Necessary! We welcome new members with no experience. We can show you how to get started and guide you to resources that in some cases are free!!!
  • Living in and near Pictou County
  • Live in Pictou County but on the outskirts? - No Problem. Keep in touch by email and let us know what you are doing.
  • Do you know a lot about electric motors but not about using them with microcontrollers? We welcome anybody willing to learn and share their experience with others in their field. Variety encourages new ideas.

Activities:

Evil Genius Electronics Activity: The Pictou County Electronics Club is currently gearing up for the an electronics activty in association with Stellarton Recreation. We are using the book "Electronic Circuits for the Evil Genius: 57 Lessons and Projects" by Dave Cutcher.
This activity will cover most of the basic electronic skills needed to get a good idea of how to build electronic circuits by experimenting with projects built on a solderless breadboard.

This activity covers:
  • passive components such as resistors, potentiomters and capacitors
  • semiconductors such as
    • diodes
    • LED's
    • NPN and PNP transistors (bipolar junction transistors - BJT's)
    • CMOS Integrated Circuits (CMOS IC's)
    • SCR's
  • the solderless breadboard
  • the digital multimeter (DMM)
  • speakers
  • piezo buzzer
  • voltage regulators
  • seven segment displays (LED lit number displays)
  • audio transformers

FAQ:

1) What do I need to get started in electronics?

Answer: These days, a digital multimeter is the standard measuring tool. A breadboard is also a necessity as it allows the user to make circuits without actually soldering anything together. This saves money and time. Both of these tools and all the necessary electrical components an be found available from online businesses (including local Nova Scotian businesses where you can use their storefront).

2) Where can I find information regarding an electronics project I am building?

Answer: You can do a search through any number of search engines or contact one of the members of the club to see if they can provide you with help directly or guide to many of the Internet's resources.

3) What if I cannot make it to the any of the meetings or activities?

Answer: We still welcome you as a member of the club. Regular monthly updates will be emailed to members regarding what we are doing as a club such as the projects we are working on as a group and in some cases, what we are doing individually.

You can also email us to keep us informed as to what you are doing with your projects and ask questions on project areas where you would like some outside input.

4) Where are you located?

Answer: We are located in:
Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada
Do you have any ideas about what you would like to see the Pictou County Electronics Club (PCEC) do? We are open to all suggestions and welcome your input.
